Production at SHOR Fishing: Sourcing

Did you know that most of the materials used to make our flies come from fur or feathers? Today, let’s focus on fur-based products.

Sourcing Raw Materials

Sourcing raw materials is the first crucial step before starting production. We primarily source our materials at auctions or from trappers and fur trading posts. Selecting the finest pelts is essential to ensure a high-quality final product. Attending auctions allows us to analyze the quality of the available lots.

For products sourced outside of Canada and the United States, we have a reliable network of intermediaries that help us select according to our needs.

We need large quantities of fox, deer, moose, black bear, elk, beaver, and coyote furs. For example, we use several tens of thousands of deer tails and several hundred kilograms of deer skin each year to meet the demand of our resellers.

Large-Scale Production

To support production on this scale, suitable facilities are indispensable. With the growing popularity of our products, we have had to make significant investments. In 2022, we acquired a new 6,000-square-foot building in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, Lanaudière, to increase our production capacity and step up to the big leagues!

Quality control

At Shor Fishing, our journey from a small startup to a thriving enterprise has been remarkable. As we expand, quality control remains paramount. Ensuring the highest standards in our production processes is a commitment to our customers and the environment.

With growth comes the challenge of maintaining consistency and excellence. Quality control is the backbone of our operations, involving meticulous attention to detail, rigorous testing, and continuous improvement. Every product that leaves our facility reflects our dedication to quality.

We have developed our own color chart to ensure uniformity in dyeing, regardless of the products we create. However, it's important to remember that we work with natural materials, which can react differently each time. This adds an extra layer of complexity to our quality control efforts, but we embrace it as part of our commitment to sustainability and authenticity.

From sourcing raw materials to final packaging, each step meets our stringent quality benchmarks, fostering trust and reliability among our customers.
